Developed for Netflix by Sheryl J. Anderson from Sherryl Woods' novel series, Sweet Magnolias follows three lifelong best friends navigating small-town life, careers and romance in the fictional town of Serenity, South Carolina. Netflix ordered the series in September 2018, and it premiered its first season on May 19, 2020.
The show built a real audience: Season 2 alone drew over 161 million hours viewed globally in its first month. Four more seasons followed, most recently Season 5 on June 11, 2026, for 50 episodes across the show's run.
Will there be a Season 6?
As of early September 2026, roughly three months after Season 5 premiered, Netflix has not announced a renewal or a cancellation. Cast members, including lead JoAnna Garcia Swisher, have said publicly they would like to keep making the show, but there is no confirmed decision yet. We will update this page the moment Netflix says something official.
